— Afilias to Discuss Policies Protecting Intellectual Property for the New .INFO Domain —
New gTLD operators to showcase IP protection and trademark holder concerns during a panel discussion at the INTA’s 123rd annual conference.
The seven new top-level domains (TLD) selected by ICANN in November of 2000 are expected to roll out later this year, raising issues about intellectual property (IP) and trademark protection.
At the International Trademark Association’s (INTA) 123rd annual conference in San Francisco, CA May 5 – 9, 2001, Afilias will describe its policies and procedures to the IP community in a panel discussion entitled "ICANN & Trademark Protection in the New gTLDs." The discussion will be moderated by J. Scott Evans, partner of Adams, Schwartz & Evans, Executive Vice President of ICANN’s IP Constituency, and Chairman of the INTA’s Domain Name System Governing Sub-Committee.
Afilias, the registry selected to operate the new .info TLD, was the first registry to propose a comprehensive sunrise period whereby registered trademark holders will be able to register their marks in the .info domain before registration is open to the general public.
Conference attendees having questions on Afilias’ IP policies are urged to attend this panel discussion on May 7th or visit Afilias at Booth #127 during the INTA conference between May 5th and 7th.
