Jonathan Robinson has extensive executive and non-executive experience in the domain name industry over many years. He was a co-founder of NetBenefit in 1995, a supplier of Domain Name management and associated services, which was admitted to the London Stock Exchange (AIM) in June 1999. Jonathan served as a main board director at NetBenefit from 1999 to 2009, which was renamed Group NBT plc in 2004, and then renamed NetNames in 2011 following its acquisition by HgCapital. He previously served two terms as a non-executive director on the board of Nominet. Jonathan also served as Chair of the ICANN GNSO (Generic Names Supporting Organization) Council for three consecutive terms until 2015 and remains active within the ICANN community and broader domain name services industry. He was awarded the ICANN Leadership Award in both 2014 and 2016. Jonathan chairs the Afilias board and works closely with senior management on key strategic projects. He has served as a director of Afilias since 2001 and was appointed Executive Chairman in 2014.
Hal Lubsen is the CEO and co-founder of Afilias with over 50 years of business experience, including 17 years in the domain name industry through executive roles at both domain name companies and associations. In 1997, he co-founded the Registrar Domain Bank, one of the internet’s first Registrars and one of Afilias’ 18 founding members, and remained involved in the business until it was sold in 2005. Hal was formerly an Executive Committee member of the Internet Council of Registrars (CORE), a Swiss, not-for-profit membership association of domain name businesses formed in 1997. He has been a Director of Afilias since it was founded and has served as its Chief Executive Officer since 2001. Highlights during Hal’s tenure at Afilias include the launch and development of .INFO, the transition of .ORG onto the Afilias registry platform, and winning the contracts to support the .IN and .AU domains. In addition to domain related businesses, Hal is the owner and President of Allied Central Services Inc., a security monitoring company he founded in 1984 that has served clients ranging from residences and businesses to U.S. Military installations.
Huw Spiers has over 30 years of finance experience, with over 20 years since his first CFO role. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, having qualified in 1987 with BDO, London. He moved to Bermuda with KPMG in 1988, progressing to Senior Manager before, in 1993, becoming CFO of London & Overseas Freighters, a Nasdaq- and London Stock Exchange-quoted oil tanker company, through its IPO and eventual trade sale. In Ireland since 1998, Huw was CFO of technology companies Avatar Works, Xiam and PolarLake, the latter two subsequently sold to Qualcomm and Bloomberg, and was Chief Financial & Operating Officer of mTLD Top Level Domain Limited (which was acquired by the Company in 2010 and renamed Afilias Technologies Limited) from early 2009. Huw joined CryptoLogic, a Nasdaq-, Toronto- and London Stock Exchange-quoted online gaming company, as Group Head of Operations and Chief Financial Officer in 2010, where he executed a turnaround from a loss-making to a profitable company until its subsequent trade sale in 2012. Since 2012, Huw has performed various management and corporate finance consultancy roles with clients including PolarLake and Modern Plant, a distribution company. Huw rejoined the Group as Chief Financial Officer in 2014.
Scott Hemphill has over 20 years’ experience practicing corporate law, with a focus on commercial contracts, mergers and acquisitions and general technology and Internet-related issues. He joined Domain Bank, Inc., one of the Internet's first ICANN-accredited Domain Name Registrars and one of Afilias' founding members, as Vice President and General Counsel in 2000. Scott was highly involved in the creation of Afilias, serving in 2000 and 2001 as co-chair of the Group’s Policy Committee formed from representatives of Afilias' initial shareholders to help guide the creation of the .INFO Registry. Scott joined Afilias in 2003 as Vice President and General Counsel, and is responsible for the oversight of legal and policy issues for the Group.
Philipp Grabensee is a co-founder and Deputy Chairman at Afilias. He has extensive experience in DNS, Domain Names and leads Afilias’ worldwide government relations team. Philipp is a practicing lawyer and partner of the law firm SHSG, Rechtsanwälte und Fachanwälte für Strafrecht. He was previously a member of the Names Council in the ICANN Domain Name Supporting Organization. He served as Chairman of the Afilias board from 2003 to 2014.
Ken Stubbs is a co-founder of Afilias and has over 20 years’ experience in the Domain Name industry. He was formerly a GNSO council member at ICANN and served as Council Chairman from 2000 to 2002. Ken is a founding director of Afilias, having joined the Group at its inception. Ken was Chairman of the Policy Advisory Board for dotMobi from 2006 - 2014, Ken worked with various user communities to develop policies and guidelines for .MOBI domain use. He previously practiced as a certified public accountant with KPMG and Ernst & Young. He has been self-employed as an Internet consultant for the last 20 years
Keith Lubsen has over 20 years of business experience, including over 15 years in the domain name industry. He joined Afilias in 2007 and is currently the Vice President of Business Development responsible for both internal and external oversight functions that help the company achieve its goals. Keith was formerly at the registrar Domain Bank, which was one of Afilias' founding members and shareholders, where he oversaw marketing and business development. He played an instrumental role in the sale of Domain Bank to Dotster in 2005, and helped manage the transition. Prior to Domain Bank, Keith was a successful real estate land developer in Utah.
Thomas Mörz has 15 years’ experience in the Domain Name industry, having been Chief Executive Officer of InterNetX (a member of the United Internet group), a provider of domain services and customized server solutions for international enterprises, since 1999. He currently serves as President and Chairman of PSI-USA Inc, an ICANN accredited Registrar, having held that role since 2001. Thomas has been a director at Afilias since 2002.
Michael Heller has over 25 years’ experience in commercial and criminal law, including the use of the Internet. Since 1999, Michael has been a partner at SHSG Attorneys, a German law firm in Düsseldorf covering criminal law with expertise in domain and internet law. From 2001 to 2005, he was member of the board of directors of a German public relations company. Michael has participated in ICANN related work since 2001. He has also served as a member of the Policy Advisory Board for .Pro since 2013. Michael has specialist expertise in international, privacy and data protection law. He was appointed to the board of Afilias in 2006.
Dennis Jennings has extensive experience in working with technology start-ups, including funding, governance and development. He is a former Director of Computing Services at University College Dublin from 1977 to 1999. Dennis served as Vice-Chairman, Chairman of the Governance Committee, and member of the Audit and Finances committees on the ICANN board from 2007 to 2010. Dennis was inducted into the Internet Hall of Fame in 2014 for his pioneering work on the development of the Internet in the 1980s. He has a diploma in Company Direction from the Institute of Directors in London. He was appointed to the board of Afilias in 2014.
